Simone is one of our poster girls because she lives and breathes DIYPT. She truly does the training and nutrition herself (with our guidance and support, of course) as she has the drive, passion and a massive ‘WHY’.
Her why is her baby girl Bella and now their new child on the way.
Join me in congratulating her and her husband Matt on their second kid. This is one of the many client stories I’m extremely proud about as Sim and I did the impossible.... .
When I first met Sim and asked her why she wanted to train with me, she said her goal was to have a child because she had been told when she was in her early 20s that this probably wasn’t on the cards. Sim has Epilepsy, and was diagnosed when she was 5. She’s been on high amounts of medication daily since then and because of the amounts she was on during puberty, it was going to be unlikely that she could carry a child. After an appointment with Sim’s neurologist, they decided to slowly decrease her meds in the hopes that she might be able to fall pregnant. This is when Sim started training with me, as she wanted to be as healthy as possible to give the pregnancy and future child the best chance.
4 years later here we are and they’re having their second. Thanks Sim for being such a great role model to all women out there. You’re such an inspiration!
From a leisure rider to a pro
Drew came to me to help him with a program and food plan specific to his sport of downhill bike riding. He wanted to increase his strength and conditioning like any athlete does for their sport. He just didn't know how to go about doing it.
Drew's a computer programmer so he's very methodical. Giving him a program and food plan to follow was easy. I had no doubt he would absolutely smash it.
The biggest challenge for him was his nutrition as he is intolerant to gluten and dairy. Also finding time to train as he is a father of two very active girls.
Not only does he look amazing in just 13 weeks on our program, but he placed amongst the best riders in the world in a major race called the Trans NZ Enduro race. Congrats Drew!!!
From excuses to action
Like most people, Jade had previously tried to diet and exercise without any luck. For awhile she kept telling herself:
“ I don’t have time to commit”.
“I’ll lose more weight and then I’ll start”. “It’s too hard”.
Jade said her results was a reflection of the support she received from the other DIYPT members. She believes that she couldn’t have done it without them and she wants to give a massive shout out in particular to Jonelle Kulper, Maryanne Guico and Ivy.
“Their words of encouragement and nutrition suggestions is what got me through... and a massive thank you to Jonathan Guico for the weekly text messages and phone calls. I couldn’t have done it without you”.
I’m so proud of you Jade. I know you say that you can’t believe that you did so well with your results, but I knew you were always going to succeed! Your consistency and dedication to your program is second to none.
Amazing results in 4 weeks!
When I met Maddie, I knew immediately that she would be a perfect client for DIYPT. She is a self-disciplined, methodical, dedicated and hard-working 23 year old who was a complete beginner to exercise just 4 months ago.
Before she met me she did the group fitness classes like most people who first start their fitness journey in a gym. She originally got some progress from the group fitness classes but quickly plateaued as group fitness classes are quite repetitive.
I introduced her to weight training and now 4 weeks into the DIYPT program she looks like she’s been doing it for years, like a veteran.
These photos were taken just 4 weeks apart!!! Amazing, hey? In 4 weeks she’s lost:
- 6.5cm off her waist
- 7.2cm off her hips
- 2cm off her arms
- 2.4cms off her thighs

Persistence pays off!
This is Angela’s second attempt at our program because she was very much stuck in her ways. She says “I’m 57 years old and as you get older, it’s very easy to fall into habits”. Also, she had a lot of things going on, got really sick and lost motivation.
“What helped this time was the constant support I received from Jono and Trinh. Jono would do a weekly checkup and Trinh would help me with the workouts, doing some of them with me”. Angela found that the website was very easy to follow eg. The instructions on how to do an exercise. She loved the food recipes. She has a set of favourites she makes constantly.
Apart from the body fat results, Angela is stronger in her legs, abdominals and chest eg. At week 1 she could only do a total of 10 pushups on her knees and now she can do 3 sets of 20 for a total of 60; Her technique and form has improved dramatically especially in the burpees and lunges and; she increased her range of movement particularly in the lunge and squat.
The turning point for Ange was when she turned 50. She felt unhealthy. Her clothes didn’t fit anymore and she struggled to walk for long periods.
Plus, she had friends who had heart attacks at the age of 50.
Your positive attitude and good vibes from the moment I met you made me have zero doubts of your achievements in my program. You’re a role model to all women especially those over 50 years old.
Lost 5.4kgs and 15.8cms in fat
Maryanne is my sister so I have seen her go through many exercise programs and diets to help her lose weight post pregnancy after having each four children, but to no avail.
That's what I love about my sister. She's a fighter! She doesn't give up. She gave our DIYPT program a good crack and managed to lose 5.4kgs, 5.3cms off her hips, 6.4cms off her waist and 4.1cms off her chest.
After asking her "What was it about the program that worked for you compared to the many other programs you've been on?" She said that the Facebook support page with the other DIYPTers on the same journey was a major factor, plus tracking what she ate and making better food choices really empowered her.
Well done sis. You are a true champion. After having four kids and still making your health and fitness a priority means that, if you can do it, anybody can!
Increased muscle mass
It has been exactly one year since Joe finished my 13 week program.
He is officially a gym junkie. All he does is eat, train and sleep.
Joe is also a prime example that getting the body you want doesn't just come over night.
It has taken more than a year to get to where he is now and it takes a lot of hard work and dedication, which is impossible without passion.
You get passion from enjoying exercising and the confidence it gives you and/or you get passion by having a core reason, a cause, a purpose or belief why you want to exercise.
For example, I need to exercise so I can play and grow old with my kids; if I don't exercise I will die; or I need to increase my confidence and bounce back from my break up with my ex-girlfriend/boyfriend.
Keep it up mate and happy anniversary.
Massive improvement in posture
The 1 year difference in the photos is because Elias' DIYPT program was predominantly focused on resistance training.
Elias had no previous training experience when I met him so I worked with him 1 on 1 first and then after 8 months, he was ready to do the program on his own with our weekly support and guidance.
Congratulations Elias. Your commitment and hard work has paid off. I remember the first day I met you, you were a shy, softly spoken boy who lacked coordination and moved around with pain. Now you're moving, pain free with better posture and beaming with confidence.
Never felt good about her body until now
Maddie's story is another one that makes us so proud.
Maddie:"I just wanted to say a massive thank you. I went shopping for my graduation dress and when I put it on I have never felt so good about myself and my body! It was such a special moment, and I felt really proud of myself! I just wanted to tell you guys how much I've been enjoying working out with you and how much of a difference you have made not only in my health and fitness but in my whole life! You guys are so caring and I really appreciate how much you care about my fitness journey! You guys are the best!"
Results in 3 weeks!
In the first 3 weeks of Nicla joining DIYPT, she dropped 3kgs in weight and 4cm off her waist.
She works long hours and is very time poor and on call most days, so she only manages about 2 workouts a week. The biggest difference for her has been tracking her macronutrient intake.
Increased 5.2kg muscle mass
Jack won our 2019 Lean Me Pamper Me challenge shredding 4.3% body fat, increased his muscle mass by an additional 5.2kg plus has increased his strength, recording a personal best in his squat (100kg) and deadlift (162.5kg).
Jack has double scoliosis and a torn rotator cuff which limits what exercises he can do eg. he can’t lift anything above his head.
However, I think these limitations has done nothing but made him more determined.
Back relief and improved posture
Owner of an Architectural firm, Rob fell into the trap that most business owners fall into which is the vicious cycle of long hours, lack of sleep, increased stress, lack of exercise and poor nutrition. One of the many by-products of this lifestyle is lower back pain and poor posture.
With the inclusion of three online sessions with me, I was able to guide Rob to do rehab exercises, self massage and stretches without having to meet up face to face. We also put Rob through an intense training program and food plan evident through his amazing results.
Rob is another testament that you can achieve anything you want to despite being very busy.
